A Question About Vacuums For Wood Floors

Daniel asks…

Whats the best vacuum for wood floors?

Dave-o answers:

The Miele S4 Sirius has a great floor brush which is made for wood floors and it does a great job cleaning up. The parquet floorbrush is specially designed for hard surfaces as it features delicate bristles for a thorough yet gentle clean. It has a 90° rotation and is exceptionally agile at cleaning around obstacles such as table legs etc. It also has huge holes on the bottom so it does not pus the dirt, it sucks it up. The vacuum itself has the new Vortex Motor which is super powerful but the machine itself is super quiet even on its highest setting. Miele makes wonderful products that are made to last 20 to 25 years and they come with a 7 year motor warranty and 1 year all parts and labor. I got my Miele from Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew because they always have their Miele vacuums on phone special (like 70 dollars or so) and they are a wonderful company to deal with. I got my machine (The Miele Callisto) $100 off with free shipping and no tax.

A Question About Canister Vacuum

William asks…

Do you own a canister vacuum?

My vacuum got zapped by an outlet in my house and I am in need of a new one. I had a Kenmore Whispertone for 9 years-they do not make them anymore. Been doing research and I definitely do not want a bagless. I am alergic to dust and mold spores. Just wondering what you have and how well it works. Thanks for your help!

Dave-o answers:

I also spent 10 loving yrs with my Kenmore canister. When it died I bought a new bissel upright. It’s a bagless with hepa filtering. I also have 2 cats and allergies. This thing is FANTASTIC it has a red light on it that tells you when your floor or carpet is actually clean.

So far, so good! Great cordless vacuum.

www.tinyvac.com for buyer reviews and more details. I was on my way to Wal-mart to purchase the Hoover Platinuum but I just couldn’t fork over almost 200 dollars. I saw the Black & Decker PSV1800 18-Volt Cordless Pivoting Floor Vacuum and bought it instead. So far I have been very happy. I previously had the original Electrolux pronto and found it to be totally useless. It was basically a fancy stand for a weak dust buster. The Black & Decker PSV1800 has been doing an excellent job on my hardwood floors and even a decent job on my carpets. It also holds a charge well. The one complaint is the fact that the lights does not turn green when it is fully charged, it just stays red. I waited almost two days thinking the lights needed to turn green until I finally called the company and they said the light stays green, you just have to charge for at least 21 hours. Overall I’m very happy with the Black & Decker PSV1800 18-Volt Cordless. My floors are clean because it is so easy to use a cordless vac than dragging out the full size corded vacuum.

Vacuum Request: Eureka The Boss 4D vs. Hoover Windtunnel Bagless

Excellent comparison between two vacs considered top-of-the-line. I favored the Eureka before the comparison, and think so afterwards. Hoovers are great at carpet cleaning, but put almost any Hoover on a floor and what it’s supposed to be picking up looks like a running dog on a wet floor: everything goes flying/sliding. And as I said the Eureka is quieter(even with the second motor) and it is semi self-propelled. The one advantage the Hoover has to the Eureka is a larger dust bin, but what good does that do when the Eureka picks up better? Bottom line, both machines are heavy, but the Eureka makes up for it in it’s features and good power-suction. One last note; I noticed that were I ran the Eureka over the floor there are what look like brushroll marks. I think they are from the popcorn, but I can’t be certain. In the end, the shark sweeper was used to clean up the remains.
